Google MyMaps



    This was my first experience using this tool and with creating a map. It was an interesting skill to learn, and I hope to continue to develop it as time goes on. I was able to add three significant locations to the map. I am sure there are more, and I am eager to continue learning the multiple layering aspect of it.

Web Soil

  The web soil survey was a completely new experience for me. In a way, it reminded me a lot of GIS. Before this, I was never aware that my county, speaking from a soil survey standpoint, was split up into three categories. As I played around more with the results, it made sense. Some parts of my area are coastal, others has more acidity, and then my area has a good mix of everything. When it comes to restoring native vegetation, it makes me wonder if an outside source brought in different soils to try in the gardens previously. It would explain why my luck with the gardens isn't going to well.

Weather Links

I chose three links for the weather information. This will hopefully grow as time goes on:        I chose these links particularly because the only information offered is statistics. There isn’t too much information, weather-wise, on my location. Asking the locals about the weather varies from person to person. Some say it hasn’t changed in the past twenty-five years. Others say different. All of these links give me plain numbers to work with, and tools to compare and contrast easily. All of these sources allow me to change the dates so I can explore the history, although weather.com is limited in this. However, the radar map is easier to understand. NOAA is a map I hope to get to learn how to navigate easier as well. My reasons for wanting pure numbers is I am trying to restore a native garden, but the sun is so intense, even my plants requiring ‘full sun, minimal water’ are struggling.
